Releasing their debut album 'I Wrote Yr Name On A Public Toilet' on the upcoming label Series Two Records. The right word might be 'his' because on this album everything from the whole song writing and recording process to sleeve design is made by Pell.
'The Odd Fiddler' formed sometime back in -00 but was more just a name and some song ideas. Pell did other projects in Sweden at that time but for 2 years ago that old idea became reality. 'The Odd Fiddler' is now based in London but Pell is originally from Sweden. In September 2007 'The Odd Fiddler' went from just being Pell (guitar, vocals) to being a 3 piece "band" (more or less) which at the moment contains Dan (before in Foxes!) on keyboard and Tank on percussion.
They play live shows mainly around UK at the moment. But the future plan hopefully also contains the rest of Europe and US.
If you ask people which genre 'The Odd Fiddler' is all about some might say twee- pop and others might say "depressive pop". But all that doesn't matter if you ask Pell, the press have mentioned both artists like Television Personalities, The Smiths, Belle & Sebastian, Hefner (Darren Hayman) and Syd Barrett (amongst others) in the same sentence as 'The Odd Fiddler'.
Seeing 'The Odd Fiddler' live and listen to the recordings as well is everything from dancing to almost burst in tears. Pell described it a bit like a film, not the acting part but the thing with films bringing up emotions to the watcher which can be laugh to tears in about a four minutes period or so.
Press
"The Odd Fiddler from Stockholm set hearts on fire with his melancholic reflections" (Metica)
"...an exciting voice" (YellowMelodies)
"I'm not even sure I like the Odd Fiddler, but Chewing Yr Bubblegum (Instead of Laughing At Me) is infectious. Everything about it is simple - the music, the childish lyrics (see: na na na)" (Enough Cowbell)
"...led by a man merely named Pell. His brand of low fidelity charms can be highly reminiscent of the more fragmented Syd Barrett outtakes found on Opel, but is quite a bit more chorus-drenched and even a bit more sun-fried at times" (RetroLowFI)
"...Heavily influenced by 80's music and the Beach Boys, The Odd Fiddler deals with issues of death, morality, and lost love... The Odd Fiddler crafts songs as lyrically forceful as Daniel Johnston, Leonard Cohen , and Joy Division." (Fazer Online Music Magazine-/Shawn Alexander Roy)
"The last band on here is The Odd Fiddler, the only band not from Sweden (instead, they come from London) - let's just say that we never needed to leave the country..." (IndiePages)
