The Mother Z's

The Mother Z's are a brother / sister duo out of Homewood, IL, a south suburb of Chicago. The band started in the summer of 2007 with an impromptu "jam" between Andy and Rebecca Palmer. Andy had been writing songs since he was about 16 years old and had recently become interested in writing songs heavily influenced by pop, Motown, and the music of the Violent Femmes. He wanted his sister to play the drums on a trial basis just to hear how a new song he'd written would sound. It was supposed to be just for fun, and it was fun... too fun. The two began to practice and had were soon playing local open mic nights and collaborating on a slew of new songs to which Rebecca added her sassy sense of humor.

The Mother Z's' first summer as a band found them playing at least once a week, booking bigger shows in Chicago, and recording an album of 10 original songs called "Gold, Living Gold!" The band has appeared on podcasts including Chicago Acoustic Underground, and The Soupy Gato Show. The Mother Z's have continued to record their music, making their independent releases "Gold, Living Gold!" and "Soul Singer" available for free via mail-order, and have continued to play gigs in Chicago at popular venues such as Elbo Room and The Beat Kitchen. Most recently, the band has collaborated with Series Two Records to release a collection of the songs from their first two albums along with 4 new originals.

The Mother Z's performed at the 2009 Nebraska Pop Festival to a very enthusiastic crowd. Rebecca has also begun her own side project of sassy little ukulele songs which are to be recorded along with another batch of Mother Z's tunes in the near future.
