12.2.00 Well, it's been quite some time since the Sandcastle Website was updated, but that was because Sandcastle HQ has been moved to Brooklyn, New York. So note the change in address, please. Today I just received a master copy of the two Even As We Speak songs. The new song is called "Makes No Sense," and the older unreleased song is called "Let It Shine." Makes No Sense is catchy in a Primitives sort of way, and Let It Shine is laid back and in the vein of their last recordings for Sarah Records. The record will be pressed as soon as possible but things are a little bit chaotic due to the move. Also the Loons CD will hopefully be out before winter ends, as it's a lovely album to listen to when it's snowing, and it's been far too long sitting on our shelves. In the meantime, watch this space for updates. And while you're at it, two bands with future releases scheduled for release on Sandcastle have new recordings out. Postal Blue have a CDEP out on Drive-in, and the Spanish Amanda's debut album, Brave New Girl, is out on Firestation Tower Records of Germany.

8.11.00 Well, a month to the day since the last update. I didn't even plan it that way. Hm... No big fantastic news to speak of, but some more info on the forthcoming EAWS / In a Day split 7". The In a Day songs are in fact brand new ones. Sort of Club 8 sounding to some extent. Very poppy and a fitting match for Even As We Speak I think. Their titles are "The Wrong Way," and "What More on Earth." Both are quite short, and feature your standard instrumentation of guitar / bass / drums / vocals with the added bonus of a little trumpet. I was told the name of the Even As We Speak song but I've forgotten it. None of you will likely know it anyway, but it has "Light" in it. It was intended to be their next single on Sarah Records, prior to EAWS' breakup and the dissolution of Sarah Records. Still haven't heard it or the new song yet but I'm betting they're great. Oh and I nearly forgot to tell you all that the Spanish Amanda have put together a free CD. All you have to do is go to their webpage for the details and send them an e-mail with your address.

7.11.00 Hello, sorry that it's been so long between updates, but not much has been going on over here at Sandcastle Records. The progress of the EAWS/In a Day split 7" is going along nicely. Even As We Speak are nearly done recording a brand new song, and the second song will apparently be an old unreleased song. In a Day have recorded their first number and are hard at work on the second. Laura Watling's 7" on Shelflife is now out as well, so make sure to get it! Demo versions of some of the songs can be found on her tape library tape. Also, I've updated the Links section again. I've added a link to my own band for a little self-promotion too ;)

5.30.00 Couple new events. One is while cleaning out my room I discovered a few traycards for Stereophonic Sunshine so I can assemble a few more. If you want to order one, you can now do so directly from me. There aren't many left. Less than a dozen. But I've got some. The other news is that I will be co-releasing a split between a reunited Even As We Speak and In a Day. The other label releasing the split will be a new Australian label. Even As We Speak are going to be doing a tour in the East Coast of the US in the Fall as well. Oh, and In a Day is all of the ex-Autocollants minus Ed, and they have kind of an upbeat shoegazer sound. Imagine Juniper crossed with Slowdive. We're shooting for an October release, but I'll have more info on it as it comes.

5.18.00 Hello. This is the first update in a couple weeks, mainly owing to the fact that there hasn't been anything newsworthy to say until about now. But there are a couple things of note now, both revolving around the website. One is that I'm working on a Flash version of the site, it should be ready by the beginning of June, and it should be very pretty and have music to go along with it. Another thing is that I've put up a song from the new Spanish Amanda demo I've received, which will most likely be on their upcoming Sandcastle LP. It's called "Chasing Amy", and it's fantastic. Very new wave-sounding. One last thing is that there's a 90% chance that I'll be co-releasing a split 7" with one of Laura Watling's bands and an excellent band of yesteryear who've reformed. More info will be available when it's confirmed.

Want to keep up-to-date on Sandcastle news? I'm putting together an e-mail newsletter to infrequently mail out. Send me an e-mail with 'Subscribe Newsletter' in the subject and I'll add you to the list. See the bottom of the page for my e-mail or click here.

Statement of Purpose:

As a child, have you ever made a beautiful sandcastle, only to have it washed away by a wave? I've found that the same principle often applies to music. A band will form. Regardless of the quality of their music, often they will be unable to find a suitable outlet for the sale of their creative energies. The only stelae to stand is often a quickly recorded demo cassette, sold to a handful of local friends. Well this is not the way it should be. Perhaps Sandcastle Communications cannot make millions of people take heed, but if only a few dozen new fans across our planet are made, then that is some small victory. So, to remember the most enjoyable moments in your own life, to chronicle the progress of someone's musicianship, to preserve an imprint of the greatest unknown song never heard by man nor beast, that is why we release records.
