January 21st, 2000: What's new, you ask?
Well I live in a house now with two cats and I have a real
job. I bake a lot of cheesecake. All silliness aside, there definitely will be a new issue of Kickstand. I know it has been well over a year since I did the last one. I've been busy being a real person. I have a lot of stuff written for the next issue, though, but I have a lot of decisions to make concerning it's "last issue" status. Also, I really hate the business end of Kickstand, so that makes me drag my feet as far as getting it done. I hate getting ads, I hate getting it printed, I hate folding and stapling, I hate sending it out. If only I had a staff. I only like the writing, editing, and layout parts of doing a zine. October 3rd, 1999: I never thought I would be this dorky, but I've got two webpages for you: the page devoted to pictures of our cats and the page devoted to pictures of our wedding (which has been removed). I have a set of excuses: 1) my sister moved back to Stanford and she only got to see our cats once, so I took some pictures for her. 2) I can't afford to make dozens of copies of each of the wedding pictures for the family we have all over the country. Anyhow, they were fun to make. August 6th, 1999: I'm preparing everything here so that it won't require much attention from me. There definitely will be at least one more issue of Kickstand, but I can't promise any more than that. On another note, Chris and I are getting married on September 4th. What do I know about planning a wedding? Practically nothing, as it turns out. It should be fun, though. May 22, 1999: We have a house! We're only renting it for three months, since we haven't actually seen it (long story), but we've got the option to stay there after our "trial period" is over. Or we can move again. But it's a relief to have someplace to move to from here and to have someplace for our stuff to live while we're frolicking in the ocean. As soon as we get back, we're gonna go to the pound and get a kitty or two! May 12, 1999: So, aside from getting back to doing my webpage, here's what else is up: I'm graduating this quarter, moving back to Seattle, and going on a sailing vacation in the Carribbean (!) with Chris and his parents. I have three more exams to take in my life! I've been assisting with more seal research, making a professional business-type webpage for money, and sewing sock dolls (again). I have been trying not to spend all my money on Ebay items. If you are trying to find me: * before June: I am in Santa Cruz, same as always. * June-July: I wll be half here and half in Seattle. The Santa Cruz mail should forward to me for at least six months. If you're unsure or it's urgent, your best bet would be to revert to my parents' address: 2008 E. Aloha St. * Seattle WA 98112-4044. * July 1-13: I'll be sailing in the Carribbean! Send things wherever you want, I'll probably get them eventually. * Mid-July on: I'll hopefully have a new apt./PO Box and the address will be up here. The 2008 address will get to me quickest if you ever can't decide where to send something. As for Kickstand, I decided not to jeopardize quality by forcing it out of me before its time. I think it will be out this summer. Late. February 11, 1999: How do you do? I
am good because I'm only taking two classes this quarter. One is
basically doing research on the elephant seals up at Ano Nuevo, which I
love, and the other is mainly dissecting invertebrates, which I also love. I'm writing
an elephant-seal-research log for the next issue of Kickstand, and it's
jam-packed with excitement, let me tell ya. Elephant seals smell like
hell, make horrible noises, and are fairly violent animals, but those
eyes! The cute way they scratch their flippers! That funny noise the pups
make! Maybe you have to be there.
December 3, 1998:I've probably neglected this page so long that no one's ever going to look at it again, but finally the stuff from the new issue of the zine is out. I've only had time to put up a #10 page and the Leslies interview, but hey! School has been more annoying than usual and finals are coming up. I'll see what I can do. Probably I can get a lot of this done during winter break. I only have two more quarters left: I just found out that I can definitely graduate in spring and you don't know how happy that makes me. I am so sick of school. I've been going nearly continuously for fifteen years now. Argh. As annoying as all that is, I've been feeling pretty cheerful. The new zine has not embarrassed me yet. I'm gonna go up to Seattle in a few weeks and see the new river otters at the aquarium (guess I'll throw in a visit to my family, too, ha ha). I was talking to my mom the other day and she prefaced a story by saying, "you're not going to put this on the webpage are you?" September 23, 1998: What have I been up to? Well, I just went to the thrift stores and bought myself three stripey shirts and one black one, I repotted my spearmint plants so they'd have room to grow, and I'm busy finishing the new Kickstand! Oh boy. For real here's what it has: interviews with Debbie Drechsler, #Poundsign#, and the Leslies, along with all the other stuff it says on the ordering page. I'm just waiting on a few people and polishing off a few things and then it will be done. Yahoo! I'm still missing a few states, though, so go to my help page and give me a hand. Merci. September 10, 1998: Well, the new annoying thing is that suddenly all my counters are broken. Now I have to go toss them all. Oh well, I don't care who looks at this page anyway. I'm always surprised that people actually read stuff on here. I hardly ever "surf the web," unless I'm looking for specific information (or reading my new fave thing, Marlys Magazine), and I'm usually under the impression that the Kickstand webpage is solely for my own amusement. Anyway, damn the counters! The zine is near to done, but I still have to coordinate my state people and finish the reviews. I'm hoping for it to be out before October, but I'm zipping up to Seattle this weekend to be involved in driving my sister down to Stanford, so who knows if I'll have time? Hopefully while I'm driving down the coast everyone will send me their stuff, then I'll come back home, throw it all together and then print! I am now officially taking pre-orders, so get on that. Bye. August 18, 1998: Wow, it's almost been a month. What has happened? Well, I'm in two new classes, and one is hellish. Kickstand has progressed and I have actual plans and things are coming together - in fact, I'd like your help on one thing. Kickstand shirts are done, but smaller than anticipated, so I think I have to run to Kmart and get a bunch of XL shirts and do some more. Ugh. Well, I think it's safe to assume they will be out at the same time as Kickstand #10. And that's all! July 22, 1998: CATERPILLARS! Well, so what's going on with good ol' Arianne, you may well ask. I can tell you! I am rocking my Marine Mammals class (Balaenoptera acutorostrata to you, my friend!) and I'm working on the new Kickstand, which tentatively has stories about Texas and other states, a love story via my friend Brandon about his wife, and water bears. Also, this weekend is the weekend of the T-shirt and Chris and I are gonna sit out on the patio and silkscreen marvelous two-color Kickstand shirts. I'll pu t the design up here after they exist and you can get one! They are sure to be awesome, and you can have either a tan shirt or a light blue shirt. The rides at the boardwalk Monday and Tuesday nights all cost 50 cents each now, tourist season being almost over, and we zip around on the rollercoaster, which is really fun. The best part about it is that there's a point at which they take your picture an d then show all the pictures on TV screens to try to sell them to you. We figured out where they take the picture, and now we make funny faces when we go past. Chris looked like he was dead last time! So yes, having fun. Email me and tell me how you like this new webpage thingy. July 1, 1998: Well, hi there! We skipped June entirely and now here it is July. I'm in summer school and loving it (only one class: Biology of Marine Mammals, the first class I've taken for my major that I have unequivocally loved). My recent attitude has been "fuck the webpage!" because it makes me much happier to sit around learning about pinnipeds and trying to play little songs on the bass than to sit here fiddling with HTML. Never fear, though, for I have plans to stick up some stuff from past issues of the zine, and maybe even the under-appreciated and rarely seen Briny Deep! Won't that be a blast. May 30,
1998:I learned how to make an image map today! It's on my links page, in case you haven't seen it yet. I think it's the coolest thing ever right now, and you should too! Please notify me if it doesn't work. My webpage has no organized theme or motif right now, but at least things look rad! To me. Today we saw deer, a coyote, and a huge snake on campus (which is up in the forest). I think that's awesome. It's time for me to scoot to bed, probably. I should just let everyone know that I have the best plan for the cover of Kickstand #10! But it's a secret. I just promise it'll be cool and take a lot of effort on my part, which I'm sure to complain about later. May 24, 1998: A picture of me Chris being whales! Click it to see it bigger. |
