Lois
I'm sure you all know who Lois is. This interview is from the summer of '96 and I was having a terrible time thinking of questions, so I enlisted the help of Hannah Blair. We had just graduated high school, hence the awful school questions. I know there are lots of Lois interviews out there, but this wasn't my plan! I meant to have her do Celebrity Mad Libs with me, but it turns out she's allergic to them or something. Lois is super nice. She does the best live shows ever, and the new album is my favorite yet.

What is the latest line-up of The Lois?
The latest line-up of The Lois is Lois Maffeo & Heather Dunn, but on our new record we also do stuff with Elliott Smith and Alan Sparhawk from Low and Brendan Canty from Fugazi.

How about the new album? When will it be out?
The new LP is called INFINITY PLUS and it will be out on October 8.

If The Lois was a cover band, whose songs would you cover?
Everly Bros., Shudder to Think & George Michael.

Do you have any secret crushes that you'd like to go public?
I'm madly in love with this actor Oliver Platt. Really. No lie.

Please explain your guitar strap. Were those supermodels we thought we saw?
Yes there is a supermodel on my guitar strap - but I wanna have another one made that has some real supermodels on it -- like Rose Melberg or Vaginal Creme Davis!

What do you do for Halloween, now that you're officially too old to trick-or-treat?
Last Halloween I had about 15 house guests because the Mad Scene, the Bartlebees and Fugazi were all at the house (some coming, some going) and we were handing out treats to the kids and my filmmaker friend Jem Cohen was filming it on Super 8. It was pretty insane.

What's your favorite mode of transportation? Why?
Walking. Least likely to sustain injury.

Favorite junk food?
King's Hawaiian Bread.

You've been to a lot of places; where's the best place to be?
Olympia! Duh.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Stewardess or journalist.

What is the most memorable thing about your high school experience? Do you remember what your senior quote was?
It's kind of a stretch for me - it was a long time ago. The haziness stems from a combination of factors. We didn't have senior quotes. I don't even really know what they are.

What classes did you take in college?
Art history, film history, English literature.

If a team of scientists were on hand to invent any one thing you asked for, what would it be?
A machine that would de-warp records.

If you could banish one thing that exists on the world today to the dark side of the moon, what would it be?
Arrogance.

And finally, your last messages for Today's Youth?
Vote!
