Before you start your page, you need to decide what's going to be on it. If you think it may end up being a lot of pages, you may want to draw up a sort of blueprint of it before you get started.

What should a webpage have on it? At the bare minimum, you should have an index page that has some sort of introduction to what your site is about, a page with your information on it, and some way for people to get in touch with you. Most people like to have a links page as well.

A simple site for a record label could have these pages:
  • main intro page
  • news/new releases
  • catalog
  • ordering info
  • contact info
  • links
You also want to consider what order you want to put all this in. For example, if you're going to keep your links to other pages on your site in some kind of order, you have to decide what order. I usually try to put them in the order I wish people would visit them, but obviously that's out of your control (unless you do something crappy like only link to the third page from the bottom of the second page).

You'll want to have your news page somewhere prominent, and you'll want to put your links page last. You don't want people leaving your site before they're done with it, so don't offer them a links page in the middle of the list of places to go on your site. You want them to be totally finished with your site before they go wandering off.

Also, you need to make sure your site is navigable. You don't want people to get lost in a maze of pages. If you only have a few pages, put links to all your other pages on every page. If you have a lot of pages, or pages that branch off of pages, make sure every page is easy to get to and easy to find again. With the Kickstand page, I ended up having so many pages that I made a complete table of contents for it. This isn't something that would make a good main page, but anyone looking for something can follow the link to it from the main page and find what they want quickly and easily.
