LIE 134 ASSAULT SQUAD SAFETY SCISSORS - "Tapes have a way of holding things together" (8 songs)
Assault Squad Safety Scissors is the solo project of Andrew Allingham’s, from Virginia (with the occasional help from friends). When we found out about him via MySpace, we fell for the simplicity and wholeheartedness of his tunes at first listen and ever since that day we have wanted to release some of his music. Now that it has finally happened, we hope that more people will be an opportunity for other people to appreciate this fine and gentle folk-inspired bedroom pop. |
 |
LIE 135 TWO EASY STEPS - "Home sweet home" (8 songs)
Surreal minimalism from Turkey, constantly suspended between dreampop and post-rock. |
 |
LIE 136 SLEEP TODAY - "Abandon this house" (8 songs)
As difficult to define and describe as it is, listening to Sleep Today’s music is quite a challenging experience. Switching (sometimes even within the length of just one tune) from traditional song structures to more fragmented and even sparser soundscape-oriented textures, the band builds up an impressive and intriguing combination of sounds made up of all sort of ingredients, from new wave and darkwave to shoegaze to ambient and minimal downbeat electronica, all mixed together with remarkable competence and no fear of experimenting whatsoever. |

LIE 137 SOME GORGEOUS ACCIDENT - "Winter In Watercolors" (7 songs)
From the Philippines by way of California, Some Gorgeous Accident is our buddy Dale, who writes, plays and records on his own ethereal melodies that pay homage to everyone’s favourite indiepop and dreampop bands from the Eighties and Nineties. |
 |
LIE 138 CHILDREN COME ON - "Traces and tracks" (6 songs)
Swedish band, whose line-up features members of Rambling Nicholas Heron, that, song after song, ceaselessly strives for melodic perfection. |
 |
LIE 139 YO ZUSHI - "Jangadeiros" (11 songs)
A self-described “Soho subterranean with failed literary aspirations”, Yo Zushi, who has thus far already released two cd's on Pointy Records (which has also put out albums by The Clientele, The Ladybug Transistor, color filter, and Flotation Toy Warning is a deeply insightful singer/songwriter exploring the more intimate side of pop music with a country-and-blues-tinged coupled with literate lyrics about small moments and bittersweet feelings in everyday urban life that almost anyone can easily relate to. For some reason, we can't help but think of Yo's music as an imaginary soundtrack to Edward Hopper's painting "Nighthawks". |
 |
LIE 140 BONFIRE KIDS - "Bear with me Teddy" (19 songs)
We love bands playing genre-defying music and Bonfire Kids fit right into that category with a sound that fuses acoustic music (with hints of folk and Americana) with anything from indiepop, dreampop/shoegaze, noise and psychedelia, thus creating unlikely yet truly enjoyable juxtapositions. |
